The Most Difficult Day of My Career

When you encounter unconscious bias or are unfairly excluded in the workplace – what do you do? You always have a choice. You can either conform to your environment or transform your environment. Here are three things I learned on the most difficult day of my career:
1. Fix the processes, not the people. We could either try to remove the unconscious bias in all of us or we could try to fix our work processes and make sure bias doesn’t creep in.
2. You can use your pain from exclusion as a fuel and motivation to change things.
3. When you are excluded, you have a choice: either internalise the other person’s biased views of you, or you can reject them.
